5:55

wow, i did an all out timed mile yesterday - first one in many years - and got a 5:55.... Holy crap has age taken its toll on my speed or what? I can run a marathon no problem. I can't go faster than 5:55 for a mile though? I'm going to keep at the speed work though, need it for our alpenfest 5k coming up in mid July.

18 miles down

Well, my 18 miler went well. 50 minutes, 49 minutes, 49 minutes for the three loops at aspen. I felt horrid on the first lap - weird how that happens, but then on #2 lap i felt great. Lap three was just holding on. In fact, i got a bit tired and fell down twice on the roots at Aspen. They'll get you when you're tired. Sunday afternoon i still felt fine and finished painting Harrison's room ... nice to have a good day following a long workout like that. So, 2:28 of good running. Might do one more long run if Hervela wants to do Jordan sometime in the next couple weeks. But, not its on to speed - today should be my first one - THinking of doing a 3 mile time trial. We'll see if the rain and cold and wind lets up a bit before venturing outside just yet though. It is summer and 51 degrees - geez.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG

going long tomorrow. 6 weeks to grand island marathon and I'm up for an 18 miler tomorrow. And, its no walk in the park 18 miler either, its 6x3 loops of hilly twisty turning rooty single track. easy on the legs, great for the trail endurance. Should be a good one. Also, after each 6 mile loop i can check the time and compare to past runs, stop and get a Gu and water. works well. After this its time to start thinking more speed. About the only way i can seem to do speedwork is to look for a race, but that's a pain in the butt. I've gotta make myself do some 4x1mile repeats, or 3-4 mile time trials on my own ... we'll see !

47x2

About a month ago it was 48x2 at aspen park and today it was 47x2. I would have thought that after a month, some speed, a half marathon, more miles, and more general fitness i'd have been faster ... but only one minute each loop. Hmmm. It may be that my 48 mile week last week has me a bit tired? Might be the big lunch i ate about 3 hours before? who knows. Time to hit a couple 5-10k road races and bust out some speedwork i think. gonna have to start looking.

bein' old

man, being old is tough. I'm 42 and there are days when i go out for a run and feel 72. Then there are days like today where i can hammer to no end for 10 miles and feel great. Gotta take the good with the bad i guess.
