Yes, I've been a lazy poster. Last summer's marathon training for Grand Island was well documented, but then after that it is high school XC season and the coaching keeps me very very very busy and leaves me with little enthusiasm for my own running and/or blogging about the lack of working out.
I took it pretty easy all fall, didnt do much of anything specific and entered 2011 with the intention of keeping my running going all winter. I usually STOP running entirely from November through March, but this year I've mixed xc skiing (both classic and skate) with some running. Right now I'm only doing 4-5 hours training per week, but hope to up that some gradually as I transition to ALL running by March.
A few goals for 2011.
A. North Country trail 50 mile in a respectable time/finish place.
B. A complete end to end run of Pictured Rocks (or at least from Miners Castle to Grand Marais ranger station.)
C. A skate marathon - hopefully the Great Bear, never done it before and I still have 5-6 weeks to do some longer skate sessions on the xc skis.
That's really about it for 2011. I seem to put so much energy and time into Grand Island's trail marathon every year that when its over i'm bonked. I can't make myself train any more to do a fall ULTRA. This year 100% focus on the 50 miler - August 27th here I come. 8:30-9 minute miles should put me in the top 5, which would be awesome, but I have respect for that distance and I know anything can happen in those last 10-15 miles.
Funny pic has nothing to do with goals, but a student snapped it during a chemistry demo i did one day and I thought it was pretty cool. ;)
